Michelle Cotter Richards, J.D.
Michelle Cotter Richards is a former litigator at an AmLaw 100 firm, in-house counsel at MCI, Inc. and a privately held media company. She draws on her years of experience to train and coach attorneys in new, more effective approaches to business development. Michelle helps them create efficient, sustainable approaches based on where their unique capabilities intersect with the needs of their clients and the capabilities of their firms. Her focus is on helping lawyers convert their legal skills and expertise into value for their ideal target clients.
In addition to authoring a book entitled “Originate: Business Development for Lawyers”, Michelle is a frequent speaker for the D.C. Bar Association, the D.C. Women’s Bar Association, the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), the Professional Development Institute, the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA), and various law firms, law schools, and legal departments.
Michelle is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coach Federation, and a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), DISC, and EQ-i 2.0 facilitator. She received her J.D. with Honors from The George Washington University Law School, and her B.A. in American Studies from Fordham University. She trained as a coach through the Philosophy IB/George Mason University Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance Program.
